Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 29 April 2026

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the ExpressRoad website and the courier services provided by Quadtech t/a ExpressRoad ("ExpressRoad", "we", "us", or "our"). By using our website, requesting a quote, or booking a shipment, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Definitions

  • "Customer" means any person or business who books a shipment with us.
  • "Shipment" means any parcel, package, document, or freight item collected, transported, and delivered by us or our partners.
  • "Courier Partner" means the third-party transportation provider that physically performs the collection and delivery on our behalf.
  • "Waybill" means the unique tracking document and reference number issued for each shipment.
  • "Quoted Price" means the price displayed and confirmed at the time of booking.

2. Services and Quotations

ExpressRoad operates an online platform that allows customers to obtain quotes, book shipments, and track parcels through a network of courier partners.

  • Quotes are calculated on the basis of the dimensions, weight, origin, destination, and service level supplied by the customer.
  • Quotes are valid for the duration shown and may be revised if the actual shipment differs from the declared particulars.
  • A booking is only confirmed once payment has been received and a waybill number has been issued.

3. Pricing and Payment

  • All prices are displayed in South African Rand (ZAR) and include VAT at the prevailing statutory rate.
  • Payment is required at the time of booking and is processed through our secure payment gateway (PayFast).
  • If the actual weight or dimensions of a shipment exceed those declared, ExpressRoad may invoice the customer for the price difference based on the higher of actual or volumetric weight.
  • Failed payments or chargebacks may result in suspension of services until the matter is resolved.

4. Customer Obligations

By booking a shipment with us, the customer warrants that they will:

  • Provide accurate sender and recipient details, including a valid contact number for both parties
  • Declare the contents, weight, dimensions, and value of the shipment honestly
  • Pack the shipment adequately to withstand normal courier handling
  • Comply with all applicable South African and international laws, including customs and export-control rules
  • Not ship any prohibited or restricted items (see clause 5)
  • Be available at the collection address on the agreed collection date

5. Prohibited and Restricted Items

Prohibited items include but are not limited to: explosives, firearms and ammunition, illegal drugs, hazardous chemicals, flammable liquids, perishable foodstuffs (without prior agreement), live animals, currency, counterfeit goods, and any items prohibited by South African law or by the laws of the destination country.

If a prohibited item is found in transit, the shipment may be confiscated, returned, or destroyed. The customer remains liable for any costs, fines, or damages incurred. For full details, please refer to our Acceptable Use Policy.

6. Insurance and Liability

Every shipment includes standard courier liability cover at no extra cost, in line with the courier partner's published terms (typically up to a fixed maximum per shipment, governed by the South African Consumer Protection Act and applicable freight conventions).

For shipments where the value exceeds the standard liability cover, customers may purchase optional additional protection at the quote stage:

  • Protect+ tiered cover for parcels up to a chosen declared value
  • Goods-in-Transit (GIT) Insurance for high-value or specialist consignments

If no additional cover is purchased, ExpressRoad's liability is limited to the standard courier liability amount, regardless of declared value.

7. Delivery and Timeframes

  • Delivery timeframes shown at the quote stage are estimates, not guarantees. Actual delivery times depend on the courier partner, route, customs clearance, and external factors.
  • ExpressRoad will use reasonable endeavours to ensure timely delivery but is not liable for late delivery, save where the delay is caused by gross negligence on our part.
  • For international shipments, customs clearance is the responsibility of the recipient. Any duties, taxes, or clearance fees are payable by the recipient unless otherwise agreed in writing.
