Summarized Goods in Transit Insurance (GIT)
Understanding your insurance coverage is vital for peace of mind. Here is a summary of our Goods in Transit (GIT) insurance terms and conditions, designed to provide clarity on the protection of your consignments during their journey with Express Road.
- Owner's Risk: All goods are transported at the owner's sole risk unless comprehensive insurance coverage is expressly activated and confirmed prior to transit.
- Recommended Coverage: Given the inherent risks of potential damage, loss, or theft during transportation, we strongly advise securing insurance coverage for the full declared value of your consignment. This can be facilitated either through your preferred external insurance provider or via our pre-negotiated insurance policies available through Express Road.
- Brokerage Partnership: When opting for insurance through Express Road, please be aware that we collaborate with licensed insurance brokerages to deliver this essential service. All claims processing, assessments, and final settlements are managed exclusively by our trusted contracted insurance brokerage partners.
- Applicable Excess: In the event of a valid and approved claim, a mandatory excess will be applied. This excess is calculated as the higher amount between R500.00 or 10% of the declared goods value.
- Claim Validity: Claims will only be processed and considered valid when the official Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation explicitly indicates that the shipment was delivered in an incomplete condition or with visible damage at the time of receipt.
- Claim Submission Timeframe: All insurance claims must be formally lodged within seven (7) calendar days following the confirmed delivery date of the consignment. Claims submitted beyond this stipulated period will, unfortunately, not be accepted for processing.
- Documentation Marking: It is imperative that all waybills, consignment notes, and online quotations are clearly marked to indicate insurance requirements, including the accurate and honest declared value of the goods being transported.
- Accurate Valuation: Deliberately undervaluing goods on documentation may lead to the rejection of your claim or limitation of compensation payments strictly to the undervalued amount initially declared. Accurate valuation is critical for ensuring proper coverage and efficient claim processing.
- Supporting Documentation: Express Road retains the right to request comprehensive supporting documentation, which may include but is not limited to purchase receipts, invoices, or professional valuations, to diligently verify the declared value of any insured goods.
