GIT Insurance provides comprehensive cover for the physical loss of or damage to your goods while in transit with ExpressRoad. This is a formal insurance product and provides a higher level of protection than standard courier liability or Protect+.
What is covered:
Physical loss or damage to your shipment during transit, up to the full declared value of R 0.00.
Accidental damage, theft, and loss while in the custody of ExpressRoad or its authorised subcontractors.
Premium: Calculated at 2.5% of the declared shipment value, exclusive of VAT.
Claim requirements:
Written notice of claim must be submitted within 24 hours of delivery for visible damage.
Written notice must be submitted within 3 business days of the scheduled delivery date for loss or concealed damage.
Claims must be supported by photographic evidence, proof of value, and a completed claim form.
An excess of 10% of the declared shipment value applies to all claims. The claimant is responsible for this excess amount and it will be deducted from any settlement paid.
GIT Insurance does not cover:
Loss or damage arising from improper, inadequate, or insufficient packaging by the sender.
Consequential, indirect, or special loss, including loss of profit, revenue, or data.
Loss or damage to prohibited, restricted, undeclared, or incorrectly declared goods.
Damage arising from the inherent nature of the goods, including fragile, perishable, liquid, or temperature-sensitive items shipped without appropriate packaging.
Delays in delivery or costs arising from delayed delivery.
Loss or damage where delivery is accepted without endorsement on the proof of delivery.
Important: GIT Insurance is arranged by ExpressRoad as agent on behalf of the insurer. This cover is subject to the insurer's full policy terms and conditions, which are available on request. ExpressRoad is not the insurer and accepts no liability as insurer.
Standard Courier Liability
When selecting a standard (non-Protect+) service, your shipment is carried subject to ExpressRoad's standard Terms and Conditions of carriage, which limit the carrier's liability. We encourage you to review these terms carefully before confirming your booking.
The carrier's liability is strictly limited as follows:
Liability is capped at a maximum of R45 per kilogram of gross shipment weight, or the actual proven value of the goods, whichever is the lesser amount.
No claim will be considered unless written notice is submitted within 24 hours of delivery for visible damage, or within 3 business days of the scheduled delivery date for loss or concealed damage.
All claims require satisfactory proof of value, proof of loss, and evidence that the goods were adequately and appropriately packaged prior to collection.
The carrier accepts no liability whatsoever for:
Consequential, indirect, or special loss of any nature, including loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of data, or business interruption.
Loss or damage arising from inadequate, inappropriate, or insufficient packaging by the sender.
Loss or damage to prohibited, restricted, undeclared, or incorrectly declared items.
Loss or damage attributable to the inherent nature of the goods, including fragile, perishable, liquid, or temperature-sensitive items.
Delays caused by circumstances beyond the carrier's reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, civil unrest, labour disputes, road closures, or third-party failures.
Loss or damage where collection or delivery is made to unattended premises or without obtaining a valid proof of delivery.
Loss or damage to items of extraordinary value, including cash, negotiable instruments, precious metals, jewellery, or artwork, unless specifically disclosed and agreed in writing prior to shipment.
Acknowledgement: By selecting this service, you confirm that you understand and accept the carrier's standard liability limitations as described above. You acknowledge that you have been presented with the option to select a Protect+ service, which increases the carrier's maximum liability up to the declared shipment value for an additional fee.
This standard liability does not constitute insurance and ExpressRoad is not acting as an insurer. The carrier's limited liability is not a substitute for goods-in-transit insurance. If you require a higher level of protection, please select a Protect+ option where available, or consider obtaining independent goods-in-transit insurance prior to shipping.
Protect+ Protection Terms
Protect+ Protection is an optional service that increases the courier's maximum liability for loss or physical damage to a shipment during transit.
The courier's standard liability is limited in accordance with the courier's standard Terms and Conditions. Where Protect+ is selected, the courier's maximum liability will be increased up to the declared value provided for the shipment, subject to these terms.
Protect+ Protection does not constitute insurance and the courier is not acting as an insurer.
Compensation will not exceed the declared value of the shipment and may not exceed the actual proven value of the goods.
Claims must be submitted within 24 hours of delivery for visible damage or loss, or within 3 days of the expected delivery date for non-delivery.
Protect+ does not cover:
Improper or inadequate packaging
Prohibited or restricted items
Delays in delivery
Normal wear and tear
Indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit or business interruption
All claims must include photographs of the packaging and the damaged goods.
The courier reserves the right to inspect the goods, verify the claim, and request proof of value before settling any claim.
The courier may, at its sole discretion, repair, replace, or compensate the goods.
The maximum claim for any single item shall not exceed its actual value at the time of loss, and the total payout for all items combined shall not exceed the Protect+ cover selected.
